BYD Sealion 7 OEM dash cam, USB module and setup guide from EEVA Store Australia

BYD Sealion 7 OEM Dash Cam Setup — All You Need to Know!

Updated: 18 September 2026

Quick Summary: BYD Sealion 7 OEM Dash Cam Setup

  • Confirm the wiring, connector, camera housing and DVR/software configuration on your exact Sealion 7 before ordering. Pre-wiring and factory equipment must not be assumed from the model name alone.
  • Correct camera: HC-3776940M with cream/white Fakra Type-B plug.
  • USB-C works, but the SD-card interface is recommended for reliability and endurance.
  • Installation may be plug-and-play on a confirmed compatible, pre-wired vehicle. Installation time and DVR setup vary; a ten-minute installation is not guaranteed.
  • Front camera only (no factory rear yet).

Introduction to the BYD Sealion 7 Dash Cam

A compatible BYD Sealion 7 can support an integrated OEM dash cam, but the required wiring, connector, camera housing and vehicle software must be checked before buying the parts.

A housing behind the rear-view mirror does not by itself confirm that the wiring or DVR configuration is suitable. This guide explains what to check, the available parts and the setup considerations for a confirmed compatible vehicle.

1. What Comes Ready from Factory in Your Sealion 7

Factory equipment can vary by model year, build and variant. Some Sealion 7 vehicles may have the required factory dash-cam wiring and housing, but this guide does not confirm that every Australian vehicle is pre-wired or has the same installed modules.

Before ordering, ask EEVA Store to check your exact model year, build or delivery date, variant and existing camera, connector and interface configuration. Do not remove trim if you are unsure how to do so safely; arrange a check by a qualified automotive installer where needed.

2. The OEM Camera Model and Connector Type

The genuine BYD OEM Dash Cam for the Sealion 7 uses the HC-3776940M camera module.

One key detail to note:

  • The Sealion 7 uses a cream/white Fakra-style plug (Type B).
  • Other BYD models (like Sealion 6 or Seal) use the blue Fakra Type C connector.

If you buy the wrong variant, you’ll end up with a mismatch issue, so always double-check compatibility before ordering.

3. Interface Options — USB-C vs SD-Card Module

Out of the box, the Sealion 7 comes with a USB-C interface module. This allows you to plug in a USB-C flash drive to store footage. However, for a more stable and continuous recording experience, it’s better to upgrade to the optional SD-Card interface module.

Option 1: USB-C Flash Drive

  • Uses the existing standard module
  • Plug in a USB-C flash drive to start recording
  • Ideal for short-term or test use

Option 2: SD-Card Module (Recommended)

  • Replaces the USB-C module
  • Uses high-endurance SD cards (128GB recommended, 256GB works for some)
  • Fewer read/write errors
  • Better heat resistance in Australian summers
  • Smoother playback from the infotainment system
  • More reliable under heavy use
  • Longer recording life

Tip: For continuous recording, use a high-endurance SD card (e.g. SanDisk Extreme or Samsung Pro Endurance).

4. Installation on a Confirmed Compatible Vehicle

A confirmed compatible, pre-wired vehicle may allow a plug-and-play installation. The work and time required depend on the vehicle, fitted equipment and installer experience; there is no universal ten-minute installation time. Follow the supplied instructions and use a qualified automotive installer if wiring, trim removal or compatibility is uncertain. A typical overview is:

  1. Safely park the car and power it off.
  2. Gently remove the interior panel around the mirror housing.
  3. Check for the confirmed compatible connector. Stop and seek advice if it is absent, different or damaged.
  4. Connect the camera (HC-3776940M) to the plug.
  5. Insert your SD card or USB drive into the interface module.
  6. Reattach the trim, turn on the car and restart the infotainment system.

Restarting the Infotainment System

While parked safely, follow the restart procedure in your vehicle’s instructions. Controls and software behaviour can vary. A restart does not guarantee that the DVR app will appear or that unsupported hardware will become compatible.

5. Dash Cam App — “DVR”

The dash cam app in BYD’s system is called DVR. It allows you to:

  • View, play, or delete recordings directly from the screen
  • Manually save important clips
  • Check storage usage and format the drive

If the DVR app is missing, check the confirmed hardware and software requirements with EEVA Store or BYD support. Do not assume that a future update will enable an unsupported configuration.

6. Power and Recording Behaviour

The BYD OEM Dash Cam records automatically when the car is powered on and stops when the system shuts down. It doesn’t record while the vehicle is off. Third-party apps may enable sentry mode-style recording, but these are not official features.

7. Rear Camera Compatibility

Currently, the BYD Sealion 7 supports only the front OEM Dash Cam. There’s no dedicated wiring or factory provision for a rear camera yet. EEVA Store is monitoring updates and will notify customers when rear support becomes available.

8. Troubleshooting Tips

  • No image or recording: Check your connection.
  • DVR app missing: Restart infotainment; ensure firmware is up to date.
  • Drive not recognised: Check the supported storage type and format in the vehicle instructions. Back up any footage before formatting, as formatting erases recordings.
  • App freezes or crashes: While parked safely, follow the vehicle’s restart instructions. If the issue persists, contact support.

8.1 Reports of a Black-Screen Preview After Wake-Up

Some Sealion 7 owners have reported a black screen in the DVR live preview after the vehicle wakes from sleep. These reports describe a symptom; they do not diagnose the cause in an individual vehicle.

Software behaviour may be involved, but a camera, interface, wiring, installation or storage issue cannot be ruled out without assessment. A black screen should not automatically be treated as proof that the camera is fault-free.

Some owners report that turning Auto-Record off and starting recording manually after the infotainment system finishes starting helps. This is an owner-reported workaround, not a verified repair. With Auto-Record off, do not assume recording starts automatically; check the recording status before driving. Only adjust settings while safely parked.

If the problem persists, contact EEVA Store with your order number, vehicle details, software version and a description or video of the symptom where safe to obtain. We will assess the issue under our Returns and Refunds Policy. No future BYD fix or release date has been confirmed in this guide.

9. Summary — Why Go OEM?

The listed OEM dash cam is designed for the supported Sealion 7 factory mounting position and DVR configuration, with listed Full HD (1080p) recording. Fitment, wiring and software support must be confirmed for your vehicle before ordering; extra components or installation work may be needed.

Whether you’re using it for peace of mind, daily driving, or road trip memories, this setup keeps your footage clear and easy to access.
